CHT wins award for its outstanding partnership

The Centre for Healthcare Technologies (CHT) was recognised by NHS England, winning the Chief Scientific Officer's award for 'Developing partnerships for improving patient outcomes at its NHS England Healthcare Science Awards ceremony.
The award reflects the close partnership between University of Nottingham and Notttingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and their joint work to drive research through to clinical adoption.
The Developing Partnerships to Improve Outcomes Award, celebrates the team’s efforts in providing a thriving ecosystem for innovative scientific and clinical research which speeds up the identification and dissemination of healthcare innovations that benefits patients. These partnerships are crucial as they help to transform services, improve outcomes and reduce costs.

New technology has the potential to revolutionize healthcare and address major health and wellbeing issues. But new technology can only realise this potential if it is adopted and widely used. Successfully developing new technology and getting it adopted is more than just good science and engineering – it requires an understanding of the translation pathway and having the partnerships in place to navigate this difficult path and the Centre for Healthcare Technology was established to do just that.
Professor Dan Clark, Head of Clinical Engineering at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and CHT’s Co-Director and Lead for Services commented, “Society is facing major healthcare challenges with an ageing population and a rapid increase in chronic diseases. Innovative technologies will play a crucial role in addressing these challenges. Successfully developing new technology and getting it adopted is more than just good science and engineering – it requires an understanding of the translation pathway and having the partnerships in place to navigate this difficult path. The Centre for Healthcare Technologies was established to do just that and we are delighted that this achievement has been recognised with the 2018 Healthcare Science Award for Developing Partnerships.

With the ever-increasing need to deliver new technologies to diagnose and better treat patients, the fruits of our collaborations at the Centre enable us to improve quality, lower costs and enhance the patient experience.”
Professor Stephen Morgan, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and CHT’s Co-Director Lead for Research said, “The Centre for Healthcare Technologies has facilitated new collaborations between clinicians and academics and has supported the translation of new devices into healthcare. We are honoured to receive this award in recognition of our partnership.”
